Galton (1880’s)

A

First attempt to scientifically measure intelligence

included physical and behavioural measurements as Galton believed intelligence was an underlying trait that influences all performance

Binet & Simon (1905)

A

trialed their intelligence tests in schools to see which ones best identified children who were failing to make progress and then rated them in order of difficulty

They were effective in identifying children who needed help and gave them an ‘x- years delay’ score

Terman (1916)

A

Developed Binet 7 Simon’s tests by adding in verbal and non-verbal scales

Calculated the score through a ratio of mental age: Chronological age= a fraction (x100)
Score was given is known as intelligence quotient (IQ)

Attainment Tests

A

To measure what a person has achieved after specific training. To see wheter they have reached a certain poitn or not

eg. Driving tests, school exams, music grading

A certification of competence, a motivation to learn, a record of progress
