Q

Encoding Strategies

A
  • Rehearsal (repetition reinforces neurological pathway)
  • Organisation (bite sized chunks)
  • Elaboration (Semantically encoded- links with existing pathways to make retrieval easier)

Q

Are Strategies a success for children?

A

Keeney et al- Children can be taught developmentally advanced strategies to improve their memory but only use them when prompted

Using them requires cognitive capacity which could be used more effectively else where
