Q
Brainered
A
Identified limitations children may face
- Encoding
- Computational
- Retrieval
- Storage
- Work Space
3
Q
Encoding Strategies
A
- Rehearsal (repetition reinforces neurological pathway)
- Organisation (bite sized chunks)
- Elaboration (Semantically encoded- links with existing pathways to make retrieval easier)
4
Q
Retrieval Strategies
A
- Direct Questions
- Hierarchical (Triggers a process)
- Purpose - is it relevant?
- Reinforcing context in which it was learnt
5
Q
Are Strategies a success for children?
A
Keeney et al- Children can be taught developmentally advanced strategies to improve their memory but only use them when prompted
Using them requires cognitive capacity which could be used more effectively else where
