A patent is a licence granted by government that gives the holder the exclusive right to produce a particular product or undertake a specific process

The unique features of a design for a particular product or process
How do patents work
The inventor of an idea needs to submit a plan demonstrating the unique features of their idea. If granted, the patent allows the holder a monopoly over the use or production of that idea. A patent can be sold, rented or licensed
What is trademark
A trademark is a logo, word or symbol that is used to represent a brand
What do trademarks protect
A trademark is unique to a compnay and the design or brand name connot be used by others
How do trademarks work
The owner of the brand needs to apply for the trademark to be registered at the UK intellectual property office. Once it is registered, no one else can use the design
What is copyright
Copyright is a form of legal protection that prvents others from copying the artistic works of writers, musicians and artishs
What does copyright protect
Artistic work including:
Music
Litirature
Peroformances
How does copyright work
When a piece of music, art or litirature is produced the material is automatically legally protected. There is no need to apply. copyrighted work can be copied or adapted for a fee
