Epidermis definition
The outermost layer of the skin
Dermis
Elastic connective tissue, blood, Lymph vessel, nerves, involuntary muscle, sweat and oil glands and hair follicles
Subcutaneous fascia definition
Innermost layer of skin, connect skin to underlying muscle
Function of the skin?
Protection, sensory , body temperature regulation
Protection (function of skin)
A barrier to the sun, keep germs out, helps keep moisture in so tissue doesn’t dry out
Sensory (skin function)
Nerves feel pain and pressure, temperature and touch
Body temperature regulation (skin function)
Vessels dilate to get closer to skin and get rid of heat, they get smaller to keep heat in.
Sudorifeous gland
Aka sweat gland, tubes through the dermis and pores skin allow water, salt, waste to escape
Sebaceous glad
Aka oil gland , produces oil sebum that keep skin and hair from becoming brittle
Storage
Temporary storage of fats, vitamins, water, sugar and salt.
Absorption
Certain medicines are picked up by blood vessels and circulated throughout body ex -patch
Excretion
Salt, water, waste are eliminated by precipitation
Production
Skin take UV rays from the sun and turns them into a molecule use for vitamin D
Papillary layer
Send superficial areolar connective tissue with collagen and elastin fibers
Albinism
No pigmentation, resulting in a pinkish tint to the skin and pale yellow or white hair
Erythema
Reddish color of skin that can be caused by burns in blood clotting
Jaudice
Yellow color of skin that can indicate liver or gallbladder
Cyanosis
Bluish color of skin caused by lack of oxygen
Macule
Flat discolored spots on the skin FRECKLE

Raised solid area less than 1 cm in diameter
