What are the indications of lips?

A
  • Lips: pale = blood/yang deficiency, red = heat, scarlet = toxic heat, purple = blood stasis, bluish = blood stasis from cold, greenish around mouth = liver qi stasis
  • Cracked or peeled lips =deficiency of fluids, dryness, swollen = toxic heat, drooling = spleen deficiency and deviated = wind

How do you examine the finger vein?

A

How to examine the finger vein: hold the index finger out and rub the vein and run 5 times.

Infants index finger:
deficient = narrow, disappears under pressure,
deep: interior pattern, faint in colour, pale red (cold, qi deficiency, blood deficiency), pale yellow (spleen deficiency), white (malnutrition, food stagnation from deficiency).

Infants index finger: excess wide, persists under pressure, superficial (exterior pattern), bright red (external heat), reddish purple (internal heat, phlegm heat, bluish purple (pain, internal window) and bluish violet or black (blood stasis, severe phlegm accumulation.

  • Excreta = waste matter expelled from the body including sweat, urine and stools
  • Secretions = lubricating fluids secreted from the orifices such as tears saliva and nasal discharge
