Injury Flashcards
How does warming up/cooling down prevent injury?
Warming up helps prepare the muscles for a workout and also stretches them so they don’t snap suddenly. The Cool down helps return the body temperature back down to normal and heart and breathing rate. It also disposed of lactic acid.
What are the main ways to prevent injury?
Warming up/cooling down Protective equipment and clothing Checking equipment and facilities Playing to the rules of the competition Sticking to the principles of training e.g FITT
What are the types of injuries?
Fractures Abrasions Concussions Strains Dislocations Torn Cartilage Sprain Soft tissue injury
What is a closed fracture?
The skin over the break is not damaged.
What is a compound fracture?
Where the broke bone protrudes through the skin which can become infected.
What is a simple fracture?
They take place in one line with no displacement of the bone. For example greenstick fractures where the bone is only partly broken.
What is a stress fracture?
When muscles become fatigue and are no longer able to absorb shock.
What are the different types of breaks?
Greenstick Transverse Impacted Comminuted Oblique
What is a Greenstick Break?
When the bone only breaks partly
What is a Transverse break?
When it breaks straight across
What is an Impacted break?
When the pieces can lock back into each other
What is a Comminuted break?
It is broken into two or more pieces
What is an Oblique break?
When it breaks at an angle
What is the Healing technique called?
RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation)
What does resting do?
Helps limit movement that can worsen injury
