Infrared Radiation RPA Flashcards
Method for seeing rate at which different textures and coloured surfaces emit infrared radiation
1) boil water in kettle and pour hot water into Leslie cube once boiled
2) immediately place lid on cube and use ruler to measure 40cm away from Matt black surface of the cube
3) hold infrared thermometer facing Leslie cube 40cm away from the cube and record temperature
4) repeat at least 2 more times to calculate mean temperature recorded
5) repeat for each different surfer of the Leslie cube ensuring to act quickly so the temperature if the water in the Leslie cube stays constant
The surface with the highest temperature recorded means it emits infrared radiation at the highest rate and vice versa
Hazard and risk
Hot water
Could burn yourself
Name for equipment used to detect temperature
Infrared thermometer
How to use results to identify which surface emits infrared radiation at the highest rate
Highest mean temperature recording on infrared thermometer
Name for cube with boiled water in
Leslie cube
Why plot data as bar chart
It’s categoric
Aim of investigation
Identify which surface emits infrared radiation at the highest rate
