Infrared Radiation RPA Flashcards

1
Q

Method for seeing rate at which different textures and coloured surfaces emit infrared radiation

A

1) boil water in kettle and pour hot water into Leslie cube once boiled
2) immediately place lid on cube and use ruler to measure 40cm away from Matt black surface of the cube
3) hold infrared thermometer facing Leslie cube 40cm away from the cube and record temperature
4) repeat at least 2 more times to calculate mean temperature recorded
5) repeat for each different surfer of the Leslie cube ensuring to act quickly so the temperature if the water in the Leslie cube stays constant
The surface with the highest temperature recorded means it emits infrared radiation at the highest rate and vice versa
