Informatics Flashcards
What are the uses of technology in nursing education and practice?
Informatics, Simulation,
What is nursing informatics?
The use of information and technology pertaining to NURSING, to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision making.
What is simulation and when is it used?
It is a method used to create a situation that mimics a real experience and is used for the practice, assessment, education, or to acquire knowledge. It is used in nursing informatics.
An iterative process using nursing knowledge to assess a client situation, identify the priority concern, then use evidence-based interventions to implement care is what and used for what?
Clinical decision making and it is used in nursing informatics pertaining to simulation.
Computer systems that allow for instant retrieval of client information either directly or from data networks is known as what?
Clinical information system
Information technology is what and does what?
Technology and physical devices used to create and store information, including electronic health records.
A Systemic, digitized documentation system; includes information such as the medical history, diagnosis, allergies, and diagnostic testing results.
Electronic Health Record (EHR)
What are clinical pathways? who are they for and what do they do?
Care maps or integrated care pathways. For a specific group of clients through the use of practices based on evidence-based guidelines.
Protected Health Information (PHI) is also known as the Privacy rule
Any information held by a covered entity that can be linked to an individual.
Deals with the integrity of PHI and Establishes safeguards
The Security Rule
Mandates the reporting to clients of a breach of unsecured PHI
The Breach Notification Rule
Utilizes telecommunication technologies to facilitate client-to-provider communication.
Telehealth or Telemedicine
What are the uses of technology in providing and documenting client information?
EHR, Medication Administration, Documentation, Electronic Monitoring Devices (e.g., Remote patient monitoring (RPM))
How does health literacy and information management affect client outcomes?
The use of information management technology optimizes client safety by reducing human errors, facilitating care coordination, and improving practice efficiencies and nursing compliance to practice guidelines, thereby improving clinical outcomes.Information management technology also supports clinical decision making. For example, the use of medication barcodes and smart infusion pumps have been associated with a decrease in medication errors. Smart pumps are intravenous infusion pumps that are equipped with medication error-prevention software.
