what is inequality and health inequality
uneven distribution of resources, differences/variations/disparities in health achievements between groups or individuals ( eg males vs female life expectancy or twins one likes skydiving)
inequity
unfair avoidable differences due to injustice, poor governance, corruption or cultural exclusion
country inequity
when richer countries cause poorer countries to become worse off eg brain drain or global warming
health inequalities as a choice
people who choose to smoke or have dangerous hobbies mean they have a higher risk of death but its their choice
some causes
socioeconomic position disproportionate wealth distribution causes stress and worse living conditions for those at the bottom eg higher covid rates and deaths in the most deprived areas of scotland
poverty absolute and relative
absolute- unable to meet basic needs
relative- absence or inadequacy of certain societal standards
