Who was the man who who set up the Bow street runners?
In 1750 a magistrate called Henry Fielding used government money to set up a force of paid constables who patrolled London, called the Bow Street Runners
Why did they set up the Bow Street runners?
Because by the 18th century it was becoming increasingly clear that the existing system of parish constables and watchmen (charlies) was not effective.
What were Bow Street Runners?
Six men, who were trained, paid and were full-time officers.

They did not work everywhere because they were only confined to a small part of London and not used nationwide
