opportunity to improve indigenous communities socio-economic status, way of reconciliation, change perspectives and preserve culture language and traditions.

gap in education and awareness about tourism industry standards, relationship btwn indig and non-ingid tourism, lack of indig tour guides, access to capital and insurance, needs of support in finance and administration.

interactive website, increased amount of indig tourism businesses, and increased how many are market and export ready, supported businesses with funding, delivered training to communities.
What is ITM’s economic impact?
provided over 2000 jobs for canadians, revenue contributed to economy roughly $47 million
What are ITM’s future plans?
acquiring an office space, hiring core staff, offer indig tourism training to youth, powwow market readinesss, update strategy, continue experience development
What are the factors in product development?
one on one mentorship, relationship building, flexible availability, visiting the experience in person, patience and understanding.
What is one on one mentorship?
priority bc every business is unique, and this gives full attn to the business.
What is relationship building?
open mind and open heart, understanding barriers, sensitivity to traumas, authentic conversations.
What are in-person visits?
builds trust and connection, gives opportunity to see challenges, and have an outside view.
What is flexibility on availability?
9-5 hours may not work so being available at different hours, respecting community, people on land (fishing, hunting, foraging)
What is flexibility on communication?
using phone, email, zoom, whats app, etc. so many kinds of communication
What are operators gatherings?
in person training, building sense of community, local indig experience, trust btwn operators.
What are the strategies for indigenous tourism businesses?
funding assistance, budgeting, ecommerce advice, goal setting, business plans, social media guidance, product content creation, website content.
