A

purpose was to review scope and impact of tourism industry. found that; causes economic growth, offers more job opportunities quickly that are wide in range, gov benefits from revenue. It’s an industry and experience.

A

A

transportation 16% (train, bus, taxi, etc.), travel services 3% (trip advisors etc.), accommodation 11% (hotel, camp site, etc.), food and beverage 47% (bars, baker, restaurant, fast food), recreation and entertainment 21% (shows, outdoor events, sports, casinos, zoos, museums, etc).

What is the history of tourism (early civ - 1400 CE)?

A

Early civilization; Infrastructure, so traveling for military ,economic, and religious reasons (not leisure travel). 4800 - 300 BCE; Egyptian, Greek, traveled for gov business, trade, education, religion, social. The Nile was good for boat travel. 400 BCE - 400 CE; roman and chinese, lots of trading routes, rise of leisure travel, so would travel for good like silk and spa. 400 - 1400CE; middle ages, fall of roman empire, peace and prosperity failed so makes for souvenirs and stories.

What is the history of tourism (1350CE - 1939)?

A

1350CE; Pandemic, 50-60% of europe died, 100 million global deaths, spanned 50 yrs. 1400-1700CE; renaissance, peace, focus on art philosophy and culture. 1600-1800CE; Le grand tour, linked to education (kids sent away). 1800-1939; INdustrial revolution, planes, trains, and automobiles (air travel starts in 1903).

What has toursim looked like since the turn of the 20th century?

A

1915-1918; WW1, less time and money, more safety concerns. 1918-1929; the roaring 20s, post war optimism. 1929-1939; the great depression, no time or money, travel to seek work. 1929-1945; WW2, not safe to travel, technological advances., emergence of middle class. Tourism then also affected by terrorism, the pandemic, etc.
