What English verb tenses does passé composé translate to?
- Simple past
- Present perfect
(as well as emphatic past: “I did x”)
Use le passé composé to talk about completed actions in the past:
- Il est tombé hier.
He fell yesterday.
Use le passé composé to talk about repeated actions in the past:
- Je l’ai visité trois fois.
I visited it three times.
Use le passé composé to describe a series of actions:
- Après qu’il est tombé, il a commencé à pleurer.
After he fell, he started crying.
J’ai abaissé le prix de la guitare afin de la vendre plus rapidement.
