What English tense does the futur simple correspond to?
Future simple (will + verb)
Use the futur simple to talk about future intentions:
- Tomorrow I will sort the files.
Demain je rangerai les dossiers.
Use the futur simple to make predictions about the future:
- Tu ne finiras jamais en une journée.
You’ll never finish that in one day.
Use the futur simple in conditional sentences:
- If we tidy up together, we’ll be done faster.
Si on range à deux, on finira plus vite.
Use the futur simple in sentences that contain a subordinate clause introduced by quand, lorsque, or dés que:
- We’ll go out when the rain stops.
Nous sortirons quand la pluie s’arrêtera.

Futur simple refers to events in the more distant future. (dans une semaine, l’année prochaine…)
