Please explain your understanding of the RICS Inclusive Employer Quality Mark?
The RICS Inclusive Employer Quality Mark (IEQM) is a voluntary program that helps firms in the property, land, and construction industries improve their inclusivity and diversity.
Firms involved assess their performance against the criteria on a bi-annual basis.
What are the Principles and benefits of the RICS Inclusive Employer Quality Mark?
The IEQM is based on six principles:

Staff development
Staff retention
Staff engagement
Continuous improvement

What is meant by the term Inclusive Design?
Inclusive design aims to ensure that the differences in the way people use the built environment can be accomodated through dignified, equal and intuitive use by everyone.
Everyone involved in the built environment is responsible to encorporate inclusive design.
No matter what is is, it has to be welcoming, and easy for people to use, regardless of their age, status, gender, physical or mental ability and other individual characteristics.

What is an Inclusive Environment
RICS 2022 - …Is one that recognises and accomodates for the different ways people use the built environment.
It facilitates dignified, equal and intuitive use everyone.
What is it important to create inclusive environments?
To be compliant with Rules 4 & 5, to treat others with respect and act in the public interest.
Design should remove barriers to create inclusivity, not create them.
What buildng regulations apply to Inclusive Environments?
Approved Document M - Access to and use of Buildings.
Approved Document B - Fire Safety
Approved Document K - Protection from falling, collision and impact.
What is the limitation to Part M, when considering Inclusice Environments?
Complying with the minimum standards, does not guarantee that buildings will be inclusive and accessible to all.
How is Part B inclusive?
Fire strategies must consider people with disabilities, which affects the design of:
The accessibility of escape routes and fire alarms to alert people with hearing impairments.
How is Part K inclusive?
Handrails and Guardrails must be installed at appropriate heights and easy to grip.
Steps should be of a uniform height and depth to prevent tripping.
Including visual aides to doors, steps and stairs for the visually impaired.
Ramps should be included for wheelchair users where appropriate.
