Can you name three things other than disabilities that an inclusive environment would consider?
1) Visually impaired (use of brailles)
2) Prayer rooms
3) Nursing mothers room
4) Contrasting colours to key parts of buildings (e.g stair nosings)
What is the difference between best practice and minimum requirements with regards to inclusive environments?
Minimum requirements include generalised guidance to meet a specific regulation whereas best practise sets out what ought to be done and requires an element of due dilligence and a proactive approach to make a meaningful difference.
What is an inclusive environment and why is it important?
One that recognises and accommodates differences in the way people use the built environment. It is important in order to:
1) To ensure equal and intuitive use by all users
2) Stops any discrimination against users
3) Inclusive environments stop the limitation of good ideas as a result of their characteristics
