Health & Safety Executive = national independent watchdog for work related health, safety and illness. It works in the interest of the public to reduce work related health.

Non-profit independant organisation to improve the image of construction from a H&S perspective and to implement best practise.

What is the h&S at work act 1974?
British health and safety law which sets out the key duties that employers have for employees and members of the public. Main requirement is to carry out risk assessments.
What is an F10 notice and when should it be issued?
A form issued to the HSE to notify the commencement of a construction project, it should be issued when construction work is likely to go on longer than 30 days and have 20 or more workers at one time.
What are the 4 biggest health and safety risks in construction?
1) Falling from height
2) Being caught between two objects
3) Electrocutions
4) Struck by objects
Could you please provide three ways you can prevent health and safety risks from occurring?
1) PPE
2) Reporting near misses
3) Following approved RAM’s
How would you respond if a colleague appeared to be having a heart attack?
1) Check for a pulse or whether they are breathing
2) If not, ask somebody closeby to call the ambulance
3) Clear, there airway and begin compressions (30 pumps, 2 breaths)
4) Ask somebody nearby to find the closes DFIB and set up accordingly
5) Continue with compressions / defib until ambulance arrives

A catch card is a Laing O’Rourke process which reports good and bad health and safety practices witnessed on site. Both are fed back to the team with good practices being praised and bad practices being corrected and learnt from.
