Fred Griffith, transforming principle. Worked with Streptococcus pneumoniae, bacteria. Some changed live R bacteria to live S bacteria

Avery, McCarty, MacLeod. Transforming agent was actually DNA (bacteria).
1952
Hershey & Chase. Waring blender experiment. Radioactive phosphorus that was labeled in DNA, was found in both virus and bacteria. Protein labeled with radioactive sulfur.
1953
Watson/Crick. Double Helix Structure of DNA.
Used Chargaff’s rules and Wilkins and Rosalyn Franklin research.
1958
Meselson and Stahl, determined method of DNA replication. 3 possible methods, conservative, dispersive and semi-conservative. It’s semi-conservative.
1920s
Opatin and J. B. S. Haldane. Independently hypothesized that Earth’s early atmosphere was a reducing environments. A primitive soup.
1953
Stanley Miller w/ Harold Urey at Uni Chicago. Tested 1920s theory (Oparin-Haldane), yielded a variety of amino acids found in organisms today.

Robert Hooke discovers cells on dead tree bark.
