immunology Flashcards
what is the cause of myasthenia gracis
90% idiopathtic 10% thymus tumours
how does MG occur
an autoimmune respnse of igG antibodies binding with ACH on muscle cells meaning normal signal cant bind to neurotransmitter so theres no contraction
what does MG usually effect
face muscles - low pitched voice, sore swallowing, ocular muscles, fatigues and progressive muscle weakness
investigation of MG
presence of anti AChR IgG in serum repetitive nerve stimulation
management of MG
rest, anti cholinesterase (pyridostigmine), surgery (thymectomy), immunosuppressive drugs
what type of reaction MG
type 2
what musxles does MG effect
only skeletal muscle
how to improve MG
its chronic and progressive but rest can improve it - by allowing time for receptors to return to the surface
what alleles are strongly associated with RA
DRB1 alleles
what is a risk factor for citrinoliation
smoking
what type of reaction is RA
usually type 4 but some type 3
diagnosis of RA
serum presve of RF or anti CCP antibodies, inflammatory markers and X rays of hands and feet
treatnent of RA
immunosuppression and biologic therapies
