Immunology - 06 Flashcards
Where do you find the PRR and the PAMP?
PRR - on the macrophage
PAMP - it is the motif and it is on the pathogen
Is macrophage phagocytosis a part of the innate or adaptive response?
Both.
How is macrophage phagocytosis carried out in the innate response?
- PRR binding a PAMP
* opsonization (complement receptors binding pathogen covered in complement proteins)
How is macrophage phagocytosis carried out in the adaptive response?
opsonization (Fc or complement receptors)
What is it called when phagocytosis occurs after the binding of the antibody or complement?
Opsonization
The antibody and the complement proteins are called what?
Opsonins
Besides phagocytosis what is the role of the macrophage in both the innate and adaptive response?
Secrete cytokines to recruit more cells. In innate it also participates in inflammation
Besides phagocytosis and secreting cytokines, what is another function of macrophages in the adaptive immune response?
Antigen presentation. Done through the MHC and presented to T cells
