Immunology - 04 Flashcards
Where do T cells and B cells mature?
B cells - in bone marrow
T cells - in thymus
Where in the periphery are T cells found?
lymph nodes and spleen
Where in the periphery are B cells found?
lymph nodes, spleen, Peyer’s patches, tonsils
What is the difference in the lifespan of neutrophils and macrophages?
Neutrophils are short lived (found in blood, travel to tissue)
Macrophages are long lived (patrol the tissue)
What are Pattern Recognition Receptors (PRR)?
Recognize common motifs/patterns present on pathogens (Pathogen-Associated Molecular Patterns (PAMPs))
Which are the PRR’s?
- Toll-like receptors (TLR) which recognize and bind PAMPs to cause activation of the cell
- other types not discussed
Which immune cells migrate from blood to tissue?
Neutrophils and monocytes
What enhances the expression of adhesion molecules on the surface of endothelial cells?
Cytokines released during the immune response
What is the term for when cells pass-through capillaries into tissues called?
Extravasation
Which type of cells release enzymes in granules to kill bad guys?
Neutrophils
