Immuno 5 Flashcards
What cell surface markers are on B cells?
CD19, CD20, CD21, IgM, IgD
What organelle is important in plasma cells?
RER bc it makes lots of protein (ie. immunoglobulin)
What cell surface proteins are on T cells and what do they bind to?
TCR (antigen-MHC complex), CD3 (needed for TCR signal transduction), CD28 (binds B7 on APC)
What cell surface proteins are on Helper T cells?
CD4, CD40 Ligand, CD3, TCR
What cell surface proteins are on cytotoxic T cells?
CD8, CD3, TCR
What cell surface proteins are on B cells?
Ig (binds antigen). CD19, CD20, CD21 (receptor for EBV), CD40. MHC II, B7
What cell surface proteins are on MO?
CD14, CD40, CD16 (bind Fc). MHCII and B7. Fc and C3b (both enhance phagocytosis-ie. opsonins)
What are cell surface proteins on NK cells?
CD16 (bind Fc of IgG) and CD56 (unique)
What are the 5 types of heavy chain and what do they correspond to?
Delta-IgD. Mu-IgM. Gamma-IgG. Alpha-IgA. Epsilon-IgE.
What are the types of light chains? Normal ratio?
Lambda and kappa. 2 kappa:1 lambda
Function of the Fab?
Antigen-binding grag. Determines idiotype-unique antigen-binding porkcet; only 1 antigenic specificity expressed per B cell
Function of Fc region?
Constant. Carboxy terminal. Complement binding at CH2. Carbohydrate side chain. Determinds isotype (IgM, IgD, etc.)
What type of bonds are important in antibodies?
Disulfide bonds
Functions of antibodies?
Opsonizaiton. Neutralization. Complement activation
How does VDJ recombination occur?
Begins with breaks in the dsDNA at the recomination signal sequence (RSS) that flank the V, D, and J coding region. Then Recombination Activation gene complex (RAG 1 and RAG 2) recognize the RSS and initiate VDJ recombination.
Oganelles important to plasma cells?
RER and Golgi apparatus
Properties of IgG?
Most abundant Ab, In DELAYED response. Fixes complement, crosses placenta (provides passive immunity), opsonizes bacteria, neutralizes bacterial toxins and viruses. T1/2=21 days. Distrubuted evenly bw intravascular and extravascular pools.
Properties of IgA?
Protects mucous membranes (MALT). Monomer in circ, dimer when secreted. Cross epithelial cells via transcytosis. Found in secretions (tears, saliva, mucus) and early breast milk.
Properties of IgM?
Produced in the IMMEDIATE response to antigen.. Fixes complement, does not cross placenta. Monomer on B cells or pentamer in circ.
Properties of IgD?
Found on surface of many B cells
Properties of IgE?
Binds mast cells and baosphils. Cross-links when exposed to allergen, mediates HSN I rxn. Mediates immunity to prasitic worms by activating eosinophils. “allergy, eosinophils, IgE”
