Immuno 4 Flashcards
What surface markers are on Macrophages?
Cd14-binds LPS on Gm-. CD16-binds Fc. CD40
What cytokines do macrophages release?
IL-1, IL-6, TNF-a
What cytokine activates macrophages?
IFN-gamma
Function of Inteferons?
INTERFERE w/ viruses-place uninfected/neighbor cells in an antiviral state. Activates NK cells to kill virus-infected cell. Inc MHC I and II expression and antigen presentation.
What do IFN-a and INF-B induce?
Production of a ribonuclease that inhibits viral protein synthesis by degrading viral mRNA, but not host.
Function of IFN-gamma?
Inc MHC I and II expression and antigen presentation in all cells.
Where are B and T cells found in the spleen?
B cells in the follicles w/in the white pulp. T cells in the periarterial lymphatic sheath (PALS) w/in the white pulp
What are the function of MO in spleen?
Remove encapsulated bacteria and dysfunctional RBCs
What are the encapsulated orgs?
Streptococccus pneumoniae, H. influenza type B, Neisseria meningitidis, Salmonella, Klebsiella pneumoniae, E. coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Crytpcoccus neoformans, Group B Streptotocci (SHEP SKECS)
What would you see in postsplenectic patient?
- Howell-Jolly bodies. 2. Target cells. 3. Thrombocytosis
Pt populations who do not have a spleen?
Sickle cell anemia-autosplenectomy. Trauma. Hereditary spherocytosis.
