Immunity + Immunologic Flashcards
Humoral Immunity
b-lymphocytes + antibodies
Cellular mediated Immunity
t-lymphocytes (cytokines/lymphokines)
Antigen
substance [protein] capable of producing immune response
Antibody
[immunoglobulin] plasma produced protein molecule that is released and reacts with antigen
Immune Complex
combination of antigen + antibody
Active Immunity
natural (get disease) or acquired (immunization) *longer duration
Passive Immunity
natural (from mother to bb) or acquired (pooled antibodies) *shorter duration ie. hep A vaccine
Cells Involved in Immunity
Lymphocytes (B/T cells), Macrophages, NK
“Immunomodulators”
Lymphokines - specialized cytokine produced by b/t cells
IgG antibody
most numerous, 70%, can cross placenta
IgA antibody
present in saliva!, defence for mucous membranes
IgM antibody
able to activate complement
IgE antibody
parasitic infections, allergies
IgD antibody
helps activate B cells
Type 1 Hypersensitivity
anaphylaxis. immediate
