Immunity & Cellular Regulation Flashcards
To what receptors does Epinephrine attach to ?
- Alpha 1
- Beta 1 & 2
What does the Alpha 1 receptor control ?
vasoconstriction
What does the Alpha 2 receptor control ?
vasodilation
What does the Beta 1 receptor control ?
increased HR (how fast) & contractility (how strong)
What does the Beta 2 receptor control ?
bronchodilation
What are some sign/symptoms of Anaphylaxis ?
- angioedema (swelling of mouth, and tongue)
- feeling of impending door caused by constriction of airway, dizziness, wheezing, stridor, tachypnea, coughing, bronchoconstriction, stop breathing
- increased HR, cardiac arrest, dysrhythmias
- decreased BP
- systematic (all over the body)
What are the therapeutic uses of Epinephrine ?
- treat symptoms of anaphylaxis
- asthma
- shock
- CPR
What are the therapeutic uses of Oseltamivir ?
- treats symptoms of the Flu
- treats uncomplicated acute illness cause by the flu in adults
What are the therapeutic uses of Acyclovir ?
- lessens effects of shingles
- antiherpes virus (only limits time it occurs)
What is the therapeutic use of Interferon alfa-2a ?
- treat chronic hepatitis C
What is the therapeutic use of HAART therapy ?
disrupts HIV virus replication
- can keep pt undetectable and untransmissible
What are the therapeutic uses of Doxorubicin ?
- tumors and hematologic cancers
What are the therapeutic uses of Cyclophosphamide ?
- cancer
- RA and lupus
What are the therapeutic uses of Vincristine ?
- acute leukemias
- breast, lung cancer
- testicular, and ovarian cancer
- Kaposi’s sarcoma
What is the therapeutic use of Tamoxifen ?
treats estrogen-receptor metastatic breast cancer
What is the therapeutic use of Trastuzumab ?
treat metastatic breast cancer
In a HIV + pt how does their viral load and CD4 look like ?
high viral load and low CD4 count
What is Cell Cycle Nonspecific (CCNS) treatment ?
not specific to mitosis and will kill cells in any phase
-Ex.) doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide
What is Cell Cycle Specific (CCS) treatment ?
kills cells in a specific stage in mitosis
- Ex.) vincristine
What is stomatitis ?
sores in mouth that are painful and pt may not want to eat
- happens in chemo pt’s
What is Thrombocytopenia ?
decreased platelet count
- watch for bruising and bleeding
What is Neutropenia ?
low WBC count
With anaphylaxis where do you administer the Epinephrine ?
IM
What is Racemic Epinephrine ?
inhaled Epi
- good for pt’s with stridor (works on all sites)
What is cell cycle nonspecific (CCNS) ?
kills cells in any phase
- not specific to mitosis
What is primary immunodeficiency ?
born with this and a genetic mutation is causing a depletion
What is secondary immunodeficiency ?
intentional or from adverse effect of tx
