What are the requirements to remain current as a commercial pilot?

A

a. Accomplish a flight review within the preceding 24 calendar months
b. To carry passengers DAY: 3 takeoffs and landings as the sole manipulator of the controls in the same category, class in the preceding 90 days.
c. To carry passengers NIGHT (1 hr after sunset, 1 hr before sunrise): 3 takeoffs and landings TO A FULL STOP as the sole manipulator of the controls in the same category, class in the preceding 90 days.
d. Instrument currency: 6HITS within preceding 6 months, or IPC

What is the difference between being CURRENT and being PROFICIENT?

A

Current: pilot has accomplished the minimum FAA regulatory requirements. You are LEGAL to fly, but not necessarily SAFE to fly.

Proficient: relates to the health of your pilot skills, that would go beyond the basic regulations. Considers skill, recency of experience, and familiarity with the equipment.
