- reduces movement
- failure to inhibit involuntary movement
- dopamine production affected
- dopamine supply to striatum depleted

A
- reduction in the effect of dopamine in the basal ganglia
- Parkinson’s disease
- drugs (anxiolytics, street drugs) can cause symptoms
- progressive supranuclear palsy
- Parkinson’s Plus
- Parkinsonism (when symptoms not responsive to PD meds)

- tremor at rest
- pill rolling behaviour
- rigidity

- akinesia-bradykinesia
- masked facies
- freezing gait
- micrographic writing
- involuntary flexion of head, trunk, arms
- instability

OME Observations
A
- masked/expressionless face
- unblinking eyes
- infrequent swallowing
- tremulous jaw, lips, tongue
- lips may appear tight/rigid
- normal size, strength, symmetry of jaw, lips, tongue
- nonspeech AMRs (slowly initiated, or rapid and restricted ROM)

A
- imprecise consonants
- inappropriate silences
- vowel prolongation
- breathiness, reduced loudness
- dysphonia
- blurred AMRs

Patient perceptions
A
- quiet, weak speech
- often deny changes
- hard to get speech started
- affected by fatigue
- upper lip feels stiff
