A

Small carb snack such as slice of bread or normal meal

Under 4 conscious and able to swallow with or without sx tx

A

Fast acting carb by mouth - glucose liquid, 40% gels or glucogel
Repeat up to 3 times after 15mins
Once above 4 give a long acting carbohydrates eg one slice of bread
Don’t omit insulin but dose may need review

If conscious still and blood glucose does not go above 4 after 3 cycles or 45 mins what do you do

A

IM glucagon or glucose 10% Iv infusion
If alcoholic pt give thiamine too with Iv glucose to minimise wernickes encephalopathy

True so in these cases IV glucose will be required
