Hypersensitivities Flashcards
What are haptens?
Small molecules that covalently bind to proteins, and when processed by APCs, they can activate TH1 cells or TFH cells.
Type I hypersensitivities is mediated by what Ig class that does what?
IgE production that sensitizes mast cells.
What is Atopy?
The tendency to allergic responses.
Type I hypersensitivity also known as? Examples?
Known as allergy HS. Asthma, Hay fever, Food allergies.
Type II hypersensitivities is mediated by what Ig class that does what? Known as? Examples?
IgG that recognizes antigen on a cell surface. Known as cytotoxic HS. Autoimmune disease, blood transfusions.
Type III hypersensitivity is mediated by what Ig class that does what? Also know as what? Examples?
Driven by IgG that binds soluble antigens to form immune complexes. Also called immune complex HS. Serum sickness and rheumatoid arthritis are examples.
Type IV is mediated by what? Known as? Examples?
Is cell mediated by TH1 or Cytotoxic T cells. known as delayed HS. Poisen ivy, TB test, Celiacs, Graft rejection.
