Q

Aldosteropn phys

A
  1. Aldosterone is made by the adrenal medulla most inner layer called zona glomerulosa
  2. Released in response to renin and bind to distal convulated tubule of the nephron
  3. Stimulate Na/K pump to work harder so more Na+ enters the blood and so water follows
  4. This increases blood volume and blood pressure

Q

Function os Aldoesterone ( angiotensin and renin too)

A
  1. Decrease potassium levels
  2. Increase sodium levels

Q

Causes of hyperaldosterone
( PRIMARY CAUSES)
( low renin/ high aldosterone)

A
  1. Idiopathic hyperaldosteronism - zoma glomerulosa has an increase in aldosterone secreting cells
  2. Conn syndrome - tumor secretes too much aldosterone
  3. Familial Hyperaldosteronism - genetic, zona glomerular cells make aldosterone inappro

Q

Secondary causes of hyperaldosteronism

high aldosterone/ high level of renin

A
  1. Chronic increase in blood pressure ( CHF/Cirrhosis) –Excess aldosterone production as a result of excess renin levels

Q

Clincial feat of hyperaldosteronism

A
  1. Hypokalemia
  2. Hypernatremia - high Na in the blood means more water so higher bp
  3. Hypertension
  4. Metabolic alkalosis- loss of proton in blood
