Q

What are factors affecting enzyme action?

A

pH (enzymes function best within certain pH ranges), substrate concentration (more molecules = more collisions = more reactions, only so many reactions can occur), temperature (increased temp causes molecules to move faster and increase # collisions, too high = burn), competitive inhibition (compete for access to active site, substrate cannot bind if inhibitor remains joined), feedback inhibition (product of metabolic pathway accumulates within a cell and interferes with an enzyme, product binds to enzymes regulatory site, altering shape, allosteric activity, change in an enzyme cause by binding of a molecule)
