Human Evolution Flashcards
Cultural Evidence
Cultural Evidence: Language
Many of these apes existing today are able to communicate by means of sounds, for example, it has been reported that gorillas communicate by means of 22 different sounds and chimpanzees have an even larger range of sounds. These sounds may be considered to be the natural language of these apes. However, only humans can learn to communicate in artificial languages such as English, Afrikaans.
Cultural Evidence: Weapons and Tools
Early hominids used stones that were found on the ground as the branches of trees as weapons and tools.
Genetic Evidence
Scientists states that organisms are closely related and are likely to have a common recent ancestor if they have:
Identical DNA structure
Similar sequence of genes
Similar positions of DNA with no functions
