Summary of a comparison between the skull of a human and the African ape.
Cranium
Humans have a larger cranium indicating a larger brain whereas other primates have a smaller cranium indicating a smaller brain.
Forehead
Humans have a less sloping forehead whereas other primates have a more sloping forehead.
Brow Ridges
Humans brow ridges are not pronounced whereas the brow ridges of other primates are pronounced.
Face
Humans have a flat face whereas other primates have a sloping face.
Canines
Humans have smaller canines whereas other primates have larger canines.
Chin
The lower jaw of a human has a well-developed chin whereas the lower jaw of the other primates have a poorly developed chin.
Jaws
humans have a less protruding jaws (less prognathous) whereas other primates have a more protruding (more prognathous) jaw.
Spaces between teeth
Humans have smaller spaces between the teeth whereas other primates have large spaces between the teeth.
Foramen Magnum
The foramen magnum of humans is in a forward position/ bottom of the skull whereas the foramen magnum of other primates is forward in the back of the skull.
Cheekbones
Humans have proportionally shorter cheekbone whereas other primates have a large cheekbone.
Tibia
Humans have a less angled tibia whereas other primates have a thin and angled tibia.
Pelvis
Humans have a wider pelvis whereas other primates have a narrow pelvis.
Foot
Humans have a big toe close to the other 4 small toes and faces backwards whereas other primates have a big toe apart from the other 4 small toes and is opposable.
Heel bone
The heelbone of humans is relatively large whereas the heel bone of other primates is relatively small.
