Squadron Crew Day
For all personnel, crew day begins upon arrival for the first scheduled event, watch, or
official obligation. Crew day ends with the completion of the last event of the day, including
debrief and all associated paperwork.
IP Crew Day
IP Crew Day: The maximum crew day for all instructors and aircrew is 12 hours. For
scheduling purposes, a minimum of 30 minutes shall be allotted after a scheduled land time to
pennit for flight logging and associated debrief when calculating crew day.
Student Crew Day
Student Crew Day: The maximum crew day for all students is 12 hours. To preserve crew
day, students should not arrive to the squadron more than two hours prior to their scheduled
brief. Solo crew day is per APPENDIX A, B, G, or H.
IP Crew Rest
IP Crew Rest: Crew rest for instructors and aircrew should be 12 hours, but shall not be
less than 10 hours.
Student Crew Rest
Student Crew Rest: Crew rest for students shall not be less than 12 hours

If scheduled land time is after 2200L, crew day shall be limited to 10 hours unless extended to 12 by CO

when to defensively posture
The IP shall be prepared to immediately take the controls during all
low work maneuvers in the event ineffective or inappropriate control inputs are made by the
SNA. IPs shall guard all controls (including twist grip) when below 200’ AGL.
cut gun rules
IPs shall conduct cut-gun ORM before any flight when cut-gun training may be
involved.On any flight where cut-guns are to be performed, IPs shall demo both a
hover and taxi cut-gun before the student attempts those maneuvers
Surprise cut-guns are prohibited.
Night flight checklists
The Instrument Flight Checklist shall be conducted on every
flight scheduled to land after EENT.

On all non-NVG syllabus events that will land after EENT, IPs
shall carry NV Gs in the aircraft. The IP shall have the NVG battery pack and quick-don mount
properly installed on the helmet, and the NVGs properly focused by the IP and stowed on the IP
using one of the following methods: helmet(preferred) or lanyard on neck
auto brief
Prior to commencing autorotations, aircrew shall brief the type, which pilot will be at the
controls, twist grip responsibility, and landing site for the maneuver (e.g. “This will be a 90
degree power recovery auto to the duty. I have controls in the right seat. IP has the twist grip
sim overspeed underspeed
Simulated emergencies inducing an overspeed scenario involving twist grip manipulation
are prohibited, regardless of transient limitations. Simulated “PLA POS” caution and
underspeeds are authorized.
