Predisposing
factors:
1. Malnutrition
2.Overcrowding
3. Vitamin A
deficiency
4. Lack of
breastfeeding
Incubation
time: 1-7 days

Q
presentation
A
Sx caused by CMI
1. Croup(laryngotrach
eitis) - HPIV-1
Age: 6mos-3 years
- Inspiratory stridor
- Cough(barking:infant
s & young children)
- Hoarseness(older
children & adults)
- Inflammation in larynx
and subglottic area
- Most common cause:
viruses-HPIV1
4
Q
pathogenesis
A
- Fusion protein(F): syncytia
formation & viral entry,evade
immune function;
2.Hemagglutinin-Neuraminidase
(HN): don’t occur independently,
G protein
3.. L protein: multifunctional
polymerase(RNA dependent
RNA polymerase) - M protein: matrix structural
protein
5 P/F(phosphoprotein)
protein(non structural) : evade
immune response; blocks IFNa ,
IFNb production
