“middle age”
children 5-15
yrs
No special risk

3
Q
features
A
Biphasic life cycle
● Elementary
bodies(EB)-
infectious form
● Reticulate
bodies(RB):
intracellular
form-metabolically active
4
Q
presentation
A
Atypical pneumonia
5
Q
pathogenesis
A
EB attach to cell surface →
endocytosis → EB in endosome
which does not fuse with
lysosome → EB reorganizes
into reticulate bodies (RB) in
endosome → RB replicates by
binary fission → reorganized to
EBs → Inclusion granule has
both RBs and EBs→ reverse

Q
diagnostic
A
Hard to stain
Serology, PCR
