Excessive emotionality and attention seeking. 5 om:
- Uncomfortable when not the center of attention
- interaction w others is inappropriately sexually seductive/provocative
- Rapid shifting and shallow expressions of emotions
- Consistently uses physical appearance for attention
- Has excessively impressionistic/detail lacking speech style
- Self-dramatization, exaggerated expressions
- Suggestible, easily influenced
- Sees relationships more intimate than they are

6 Subtypes
A
- Appeasing: attention seeking ft need for acceptance driven by fear/anxiety
- Vivacious: Charming but empty, Shallow relations w narcissistic behaviour
- Tempestuous: Emotionally labile, irritable. More BPD
- Disingenuous: Attention seeking w desire to control others for personal amusement.
- Theatrical: Self-promoting. praise seeking
- Infantile: Like tempestuous but behaviour doesn’t match age.

Underlying fear
A
Fear of being forgotten, oblivion, being unseen
BPD is more fueled by fear of abandonment

Treatment goal
A
Main goal is to improve interpersonal functioning.
Clinical standard;
Supportive psychotherapy; provides insight to origin of attention seeking/changing coping mechanism
psychodynamic therapy
