Excessive emotionality and attention seeking. 5 om:

  1. Uncomfortable when not the center of attention
  2. interaction w others is inappropriately sexually seductive/provocative
  3. Rapid shifting and shallow expressions of emotions
  4. Consistently uses physical appearance for attention
  5. Has excessively impressionistic/detail lacking speech style
  6. Self-dramatization, exaggerated expressions
  7. Suggestible, easily influenced
  8. Sees relationships more intimate than they are

6 Subtypes

A
  1. Appeasing: attention seeking ft need for acceptance driven by fear/anxiety
  2. Vivacious: Charming but empty, Shallow relations w narcissistic behaviour
  3. Tempestuous: Emotionally labile, irritable. More BPD
  4. Disingenuous: Attention seeking w desire to control others for personal amusement.
  5. Theatrical: Self-promoting. praise seeking
  6. Infantile: Like tempestuous but behaviour doesn’t match age.

A

Fear of being forgotten, oblivion, being unseen

BPD is more fueled by fear of abandonment

A

Main goal is to improve interpersonal functioning.

Supportive psychotherapy; provides insight to origin of attention seeking/changing coping mechanism
