Callous-unemotional traits

A

A sign/risk-factor for development of ASPD. Predicting the gun carrying frequency and lack of fear/empathy.

Contribute to the effort to clarify differences between AS personalities and psychopathy. (don’t appear in AS wo psychopathic traits)

Countertransference

A
  • Overestimation of the patients capacity to use treatment
  • Tendency to regard themselves capable of treating the untreatable
  • Disbelief; denial that someone is that disturbed
  • Collusion; Corrupte, in turn committing illegal act or unethical behaviour to ‘help’ the patient.
  • Difficulty accepting they are different than them, which they’ll try to work around by playing their therapist

Treatment

A

Near impossible

3 predictors of better outcome, comorbid:
Anxiety
depression
Treatable psychotic diagnosis.

Focus on:
Principle of agency, insight into faulty thought processes.
Holding them accountable for their actions. They’re not the victim

A
  • Be extremely wary in outpatient setting
  • Psychotherapy doesn’t work for psychopaths
  • Must accept if treatment is not recommended (prone to overestimate who’ll respond to therapy)
  • No legal complications (pending court actions, real reason of seeking help)
  • Always have 2nd opinion
  • No treatment unless you feel safe
  • No expectations
  • be wary of countertransference
