How Jehovah Guarantees His Promise of Paradise Flashcards
The Watchtower Announcing Jehovah’s Kingdom (Study)—NOVEMBER 2023 This article will consider the guarantee that Jehovah has provided to assure us that his promise of Paradise will come true. Each time we share this guarantee with others, we deepen our own trust in Jehovah’s promises.
What was the prophet Isaiah’s message to his fellow Israelites?
The prophet Isaiah called Jehovah “the God of truth”, which means that what He foretells is always trustworthy. He has proved that fact by fulfilling every one
of his promises.
Why can we trust in Jehovah’s promises regarding our future, and what questions will we consider?
We can trust in Jehovah’s promises about our future because he cannot lie. Just as a spring cannot produce both
fresh water and salt water, so Jehovah, the Source of truth, cannot speak lies.
WHAT HAS JEHOVAH PROMISED?
What promise is well-loved by God’s servants? (Revelation 21:3, 4)
Jehovah has promised a time when there will be no more death, mourning, outcry, or pain on the earth.
WHAT HAS JEHOVAH PROMISED?
How do some respond when we share that promise with them?
Some people may doubt it or find it hard to believe.
WHAT HAS JEHOVAH PROMISED?
What did Jehovah know and foresee?
Jehovah knew that today we would be sharing the promise of life in paradise with others yet he foresaw that many would find this promise of “new things” hard to believe.
WHAT HAS JEHOVAH PROMISED?
Besides making a promise, what else did Jehovah do?
Jehovah not only made this promise, but also gave us convincing reasons why we can trust it.
JEHOVAH GUARANTEES HIS PROMISE
What reasons do we have for trusting in God’s promise of Paradise, and where do we find them?
In the verses that follow God’s promise of Paradise, Jehovah says “Look! I am making all things new… Write, for these words are faithful and true.” Then he speaks of it as if it has already happened by saying, “They have come to pass! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end.”—Rev. 21:5, 6a.
JEHOVAH GUARANTEES HIS PROMISE
Why do the assurances recorded at Revelation 21:5, 6 strengthen our trust in God’s promise?
They are like a guarantee or a title deed signed by Jehovah himself. In verses 5 and 6, we find Jehovah’s signature, so to speak, that guarantees the truthfulness of his promise.
JEHOVAH GUARANTEES HIS PROMISE
What is special about the introduction of God’s guarantee, and why is that fact significant?
It is special that Jehovah himself speaks, in the introduction of his guarantee. It highlights the reliability and accuracy of his words, since he cannot lie.
“LOOK! I AM MAKING ALL THINGS NEW”
How does Jehovah emphasize the certainty of his promise? (Isaiah 46:10)
Jehovah emphasizes the certainty of his promise by using the word “Look!” and by stating “I am making all things new” in the present tense, as if the changes were already taking place.
Regarding the word Look! the exclamation is used as a way of calling the attention of the reader to what follows.
“LOOK! I AM MAKING ALL THINGS NEW”
The phrase “making all things new” refers to what two activities of Jehovah?
replacing and restoring
Jehovah will replace the existing “heaven” and “earth”, political governments influenced by Satan and his demons along with today’s wicked human society, with a new government and a new human society.
“LOOK! I AM MAKING ALL THINGS NEW”
What will Jehovah make new?
Jehovah will make the earth and humans like new, or experience restoration, by bringing them to the condition he originally purposed for them: a global Eden filled with perfect, obedient descendants of Adam and Eve.
“THESE WORDS ARE FAITHFUL AND TRUE. . . . THEY HAVE COME TO PASS!”
What command and what reason did Jehovah give to John?
Jehovah gave John the command to ““Write, for these words are faithful and true.” (Rev. 21:5) and the reason, “For these words are faithful and true”—that is, God’s words are reliable and accurate.
“THESE WORDS ARE FAITHFUL AND TRUE. . . . THEY HAVE COME TO PASS!”
Why could Jehovah rightly say: “They have come to pass!”
Jehovah could rightly say “They have come to pass!” because nothing can stop him from fulfilling his promise and he speaks as if all things mentioned about the promised Paradise have already taken place.
