Explore Every Dimension of God’s Word Flashcards
The Watchtower Announcing Jehovah’s Kingdom (Study)—OCTOBER 2023 Studying the Bible can be an enjoyable, rewarding lifelong endeavor that draws us ever closer to our heavenly Father. In this article, we will see how we can explore “the breadth and length and height and depth” of God’s Word.
What is the best way to read and study the Bible? Illustrate.
The best way to read and study the Bible is to see how different parts of it connect together. This helps us to understand not only what we believe but also why we believe it.
What did the apostle Paul urge his fellow Christians to do, and why? (Ephesians 3:14-19)
Paul encouraged Christians to study God’s Word diligently so that they could understand the truth in all its dimensions. For example, he said they needed to “comprehend fully what is the breadth and length and height and depth” of the truth. In other words, they needed to get a fuller picture of its rich meaning. This would make them stronger in their faith.
What can we do to draw closer to Jehovah? Give examples.
We can draw closer to Jehovah by learning “even the deep things of God.” For example we could explore God’s love for his people past and present or examine ancient arrangment for worship versus modern times or prophecies.
What subjects might one research as a personal study project?
Some possible subjects for personal study projects are: how the theme of the Bible is developed, how the covenants relate to God’s purpose, the significance of the sacrifices in the Law, the encouragement from Isaiah’s prophecies, and the similarities between Daniel’s and Revelation’s prophecies.
What is the difference between a plan and a purpose?
A plan is like a specific and fixed route that can lead you to your chosen destination. However, the plan can fail when a roadblock appears along the route. On the other hand, a purpose focuses on the destination itself. We know exactly where we want to complete our journey, but the route is not set. It can be adjusted as needed.
Why can it be said that Jehovah’s purpose for man and the earth is “eternal”? (Ephesians 3:11)
Jehovah’s purpose for man and the earth can be said to be “eternal” for at least two reasons:
- Jehovah, “the King of eternity [lit., “the King of the ages”]” (1Ti 1:17), has allowed ages of time to pass before that purpose is fully realized.
- The results of the outworking of this purpose will endure into all eternity.
This “eternal purpose” relates to Jehovah’s determination to accomplish what he originally intended for mankind and the earth, despite the rebellion in Eden (Ge 1:28). Immediately after that rebellion, Jehovah formed this purpose in connection with the Christ, Jesus our Lord. He foretold the appearance of an “offspring” who would undo the damage done by the rebels (Ge 3:15; Heb 2:14-17; 1Jo 3:8). One way or another, he always succeeds because he “has made everything work for his purpose” (Prov. 16:4). The results of what Jehovah does will endure forever.
After the first humans rebelled, how did Jehovah adjust the way he would achieve his purpose? (Matthew 25:34)
Jehovah adjusted the way he would achieve his purpose by setting up a Kingdom in heaven that would restore the earth to a paradise and sending his Son to the earth to teach and ransom mankind.
What is the theme of the Bible?
The theme of the Bible is that Jehovah’s name will be vindicated as he fulfills his purpose for the earth by means of his Kingdom under Christ.
As explained at Ephesians 1:8-11, what is Jehovah’s ultimate purpose? (See cover picture.)
Jehovah’s ultimate purpose is to unite all his intelligent creatures in heaven and on earth under his sovereignty.
By reading the Bible, how far into the future can we see?
By reading the Bible, we can see as far as the end of Christ’s Thousand Year Reign and the final destruction of Satan and his followers.
What future events are coming soon?
Some future events that are coming soon are: the proclamation of peace and security, the great tribulation, the attack of Gog of Magog, and the war of Armageddon.
How can we prepare our mind and heart? (See footnote.)
We can prepare our mind and heart by studying God’s Word, praying, and preaching.
What does the prospect of eternal life mean for you? (See also picture.)
The prospect of eternal life means that we can enjoy a close relationship with Jehovah forever and learn more about him and his creation.
How can we gaze high into the heavens? Give an example.
The Bible reveals amazing things about Jehovah and the heavenly part of his organization, such as his throne, his angels, and his glory.
What do you appreciate about Jesus’ role in the heavens, as explained at Hebrews 4:14-16?
I appreciate that Jesus is my King and High Priest in heaven, and that he helps me to approach God in prayer and receive mercy and help.
