Q

What are the benefits of BIM?

A
  • Helps identify design clashes
  • Can reduce costs with more efficient design
  • The model can be used to calculate the material quantities (assist in the cost planning process)
  • Assists FM teams maintain the building post completion
  • Assists the team (incl the client) understand the design prior to construction

Q

What is the BEP and how does it relate to your ER?

A
  • The EIR (Employer’s Information Requirements) is a document prepared by the employer,, which sets out the information to be delivered and the standards or processes to be adopted by the supplier as part of the project delivery process
  • The BEP (BIM Execution Plan) is produced by the supply chain as a response to the EIR, detailing how its requirements will be met

Q

What is clash detection?

A
  • It is important to know if there are any “clashes” in the design, e.g. parts of the structure clash with M&E equipment
  • Individual models are created by each discipline (M&E, architectural, structural, etc) .
  • These models are then combined into a federated model using software.
  • This software then carries out clash detection
