Leaves are disfigured by burrowing activity of moth larva as they tunnel between leaf tissue leaving papery brown markings.
Heavy infestation can result in premature leaf drop, sparse canopy and appear browned.
Horse Chestnut Leaf Miner
Long term damage.
Horse Chestnut Trees infested with leaf miner are not permanently damaged. No decline in overall tree health, die back or tree death. There have been reports of defoliated trees re-flushing and flowering later in season.
Studies are taking place to ensure that other diseases eg. canker do not interact with leaf miner.
