Bindweed - Convolvulus avensis & Calystegia sepium
General
Trumpet shaped flowers.
Twines wind around plants, fences, canes etc.
Good competitors.
Persistent root system with long term penetration.
Roots are white and snap easily, plants can regrow from any piece, no matter the size.
Infests waste land and can affect beds, borders, paths and lawns.
Time of infestation is spring through to autumn.
Convolvulus arvensis is low growing, can grow in grass, has pinkish flowers and can get in amongst crops.
Calystegia sepium - is vigorous and grows up plants, white flowers.

Spread
Rhizome can penetrate 5m in depth and spread 2m in a season.
Small pieces of rhizome can generate into plants.
Transferred in soils, manures, mixed with other plants.
Sets seeds irregularly but seeds can remain viable for a number of years in soil.
Convolvulus arvensis- field bind weed.
Spread
Depp rooting roots and surface rhizomes.
Can spread 2m in single growing season.
Produces viable seeds which remain in soil for many years.
