Histo 1 Flashcards
Multipolar (Structure)
This is either a motor (efferent) or interneuron.
Unipolar (structure)
Sensory or afferent – only somatic (skin, muscles) information
Bipolar (structure, rare):
sensory or afferent – only special sensation. Smell, taste, vision, hearing, equilibrium. Only found in the head.
Astrocytes
Neuroglia - most common. Connect via gap junctions, work to support, help in BBB, major role is to control ionic environment around neurons. Regulate K concentrations
CNS White Matter
composed of primarily myelinated axons and some neuroglia; white due to myelin.
Gray Matter
composed of neuronal cell bodies, dendrites, unmyelinated axons, axon terminals, and neuroglia; gray due to Nissl bodies and lack of myelin.
