3
Q

What causes the sound in snapping hip syndrome

A

the hip tendon and/or muscle sliding across the bone and the tendons become inflamed

Q

What is internal SHS

A

occurs when iliopsoas tendon slides over the pelvic bone at the front of the hip joint

also when the quad muscle goes over the ball portion of joint

Q

What is external SHS

A

occurs when iliotibial band slides over the top of the femur (greater trochanter)

Q

What is intra-articular

A

caused by articular cartilage injury, acetabular labral tear, broken bone fragments of loose tissue becoming trapped in the ball and socket joint

16
Q

What does inflammation of the ITB cause for the patient

A

outer knee pain and pain in the hip

17
Q

What are risk factors for DDH

A

female
family hx
breech presentation
oligohydramnios

18
Q

What is the best modality for testing <6mo’s for DDH

A

US

also good bc of dynamic imaging

19
Q

What are the angles used to objectively assess morphology of DDH

A

alpha angle

beta angle

20
Q

What’s the alpha angle

A

angle formed by acetabular roof to the vertical cortex of the ilium
similar measurement to the acetabular angle

21
Q

What’s the normal value for the alpha angle

A

> /60 degrees

22
Q

What’s the beta angle

A

angle formed between the vertical cortex of the ilium and the triangular labral fibrocarticular (echogenic triangle)
only useful for assessing immature hips when combined with alpha angle

23
Q

What’s the normal value for the beta angle

A

<77 degrees

24
Q

What is bony coverage

A

The % of the femoral epiphysis covered by the acetabular roof

25
Q

What’s the normal value for bony coverage

A

58%
