- 5/8” 25 gauge
- usually comes in 5000 units/mL
- Gove heparin AT 90 DEGREE ANGLE
- give injection abdomen and no rubbing

•IV Heparin- for acute situations and immediate effect
NOT IM-may cause large hematoma a
NOT ORAL- would be broken down by digestive process

- Anti-Coagulant
- is found in most tissue especially liver and lungs
- prevents further clotting
- inactivated thrombin and prevents conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin
