deficiency of factor VIII and is the most common with 80% of cases

A
deficiency of factor IX and is known as the Christmas disease

what are clinical manifestations of hemophilia?
A
- tarry stools
- difficulty clotting
- bleeding gums
- hematuria
- epistaxis
- prolonged PTT and normal PT and INR

how can the patient and family prevent bleeding at home?
A
- soft bristle toothbrushes
- keep them in layered clothes
- pad corners of tables and other bumpy objects
- no contact sports because of risk of bleeding
- wear medication ID band

what are acceptable activities for a hemophiliac patient?
A
bowling, fishing, swimming, and golfing

what medication cannot be given for hemophilia and which one can be given?
A
avoid giving aspirin but acetaminophen can be given for pain
