what are clinical manifestations with a patient who has a wilm’s tumor?
manifestations of metastasis include airway difficulties such as dyspnea, cough, SOB, and chest pain
what are lab findings for wilm’s tumor patient?
- elevated BUN and creatinine
- CBC
- urinalysis
what are nursing interventions to follow with a patient who has wilm’s tumor?
- NEVER palpate the abdomen
- surgical resection of the tumor is needed so they may need chemo/radiation
- remain still
- assess for shellfish allergy
what are clinical manifestations of neoblastoma?
- there are few findings and it is hard to diagnose–> half of cases spread before a diagnosis is reached
- manifestations of metastasis include bone pain, periorbital ecchymoses, bulging eyes, and irritability
what are lab findings to report for neoblastoma?
- urine catecholamines such as vanillylmandelic acid, homovanillic acid, dopamine, and norepinephrine
- CT scan to look at bones
what is leukemia?
term for a group of malignancies that affect bone marrow and lymphatic system
what are early signs of leukemia?
enlarged liver, lymph nodes, and joints
what are late signs of leukemia?
hematuria, ulcerations in the mouth, and manifestations of increased ICP
what are lab findings for a leukemia patient?
- anemia
- thrombocytopenia
- leukemic blasts (immature WBCs) which cause a high WBC count but these immature cells do not do anything for the patent, so it is the equivalent of it being low
- neutropenia= low neutrophils
