ondansetron for nausea and vomiting
filgrastim to stimulate production or neutrophils

can cause bone pain, splenomegaly, and leukocytosis

A
decreased everything in CBC

when should ondansetron not be given?
A
do not give ondansetron if patient has long QT syndrome

what are side effects of chemotherapy?
A
- pancytopenia which is destruction of all blood cells
- mucosal ulcers so avoid hot and spicy foods
- avoid lidocaine due to increase risk of aspiration because the area is numb so you cant tell if patient is swallowing
- alopecia so help them pick out a hairpiece prior to treatment
- infection so take temperature every day

A
chemo should be done early in the morning

what is the purpose of radiation?
A
affects rapidly growing cells

what are patient teaching to explain to the patient when they are doing radiation?
A
- do not wash marks off the skin
- wash with lukewarm water, use hands and not a washcloth, and pat dry
- do not use soap, lotion, powder, and creams
- wear loose cotton clothing and keep area protected from sun
- notify provider if blisters or red, tender skin occur
