Heart block Flashcards
what is an arrhythmia?
a disturbance of the heart rate
what is classed as bradycardia?
heart rate <60bpm in the day and <50bpm in the night
what is classed as tachycardia?
heart rate >100
what does supraventricular consist of
AV node and atria
what does ventricular consist of
ventricles
what occurs in sinus arrythmia
it’s very common among young people, during inspiration the parasympathetic tone falls and the heart rate quickens, on expiration the heart rate falls
What is an AV block
a conducting block in the AV node or bundle of His
What’s a bundle branch block?
a block below the AV node and bundle of His
How does first degree heart block present on an ECG?
PR interval > 0.2s
How does Mobitz Type 1 present on an ECG?
The PR interval continues to increase until conduction no longer occurs through the P wave and so there is no QRS or T wave, the PR interval before the block is a lot bigger than the PR interval after the block
How does Mobitz Type 2 present on an ECG?
The PR interval remains constant length throughout however there is a regular missing QRS complex, usually it will go missing in a 2:1, 3:1 or 4:1 pattern
When does bundle branch block occur
when the electrical activity cannot get from the bundle of His to the bundle of braches due to a block
how does a right bundle branch block present on an ECG
QRS complex >0.12, the R wave is tall and late in V1 and deep S wave at V6 and lead I
how does a left bundle branch block present on an ECG
QRS complex> 0.12, the R wave is tall and late in V6 and lead I, deep S wave in V1
